“Earthquake porn," she said crisply. She was right. "Earthquake porn" is exactly what it is. We love a good disaster, and this one had the lot: houses uprooted, shaking buildings, giant whirlpools, tidal waves, fires, and reporters with a sketchy understanding of how nuclear power stations actually work excitably predicting "meltdowns" in "reactor cores". You watch the news, ordinarily, to be informed about things on which it is possible and/or necessary to take a view. But there’s not really a view to take on a natural disaster - there’s nothing useful to understand about it, and none but the most banal morals about the smallness and fragility of human life to be drawn. So when we watch rolling reportage, avid for detail, what we’re really doing is digesting catastrophe as theatre.”—
I agree, it was a porn, but for most of Japanese, these kinds of stuff are important to find out how to survive in the next time, which may occur on you. For us, it is not a fantasy, but just a reality. As long as we stay here, we cannot escape from earthquake, can we?
